ECLIPSE: HOW TO PREPARE AND WHAT TO EAT?

In various cultures worldwide, eclipses are often accompanied by unique traditions and beliefs, including dietary customs. While the reasons behind these traditions may vary, there's a common thread of seeking protection and maintaining health during these rare occurrences. An eclipse happens in one place only once every 400 years! This means this won’t be happening in NYS until 2424! (Hopefully, if you eat enough good chocolate you’ll still be alive by then if climate change doesn’t get us first).

FOODS TRADITIONALLY CONSUMED DURING THE ECLIPSE

1. Sattvic Foods: In Hindu tradition, it's believed that consuming sattvic (pure) foods during eclipses helps maintain physical and spiritual well-being. These include fruits, nuts, dairy products, and grains such as rice and wheat.

2. Pre-cooked Meals: Many cultures recommend consuming pre-cooked meals or foods prepared prior to the eclipse. This practice is rooted in the belief that avoiding cooking during the eclipse prevents the consumption of impurities that may arise from the atmosphere during this time.

3. **Light Snacks:** Some traditions suggest eating light snacks or fasting during eclipses. This is believed to help maintain internal balance and avoid digestive discomfort during the eclipse period.

4. **Water Soaked with Tulsi Leaves:** In certain traditions, drinking water that has been soaked with tulsi (holy basil) leaves during an eclipse is considered auspicious and believed to offer protection.
